2021 Carlos Raposo 'Impecavel' Touriga Nacional

A Portuguese Red Wine Legend in the Making: 2022 Carlos Raposo 'Impecavel' Touriga Nacional

Carlos Raposo 'Impecavel' Touriga Nacional

Imagine a wine that combines the elegance and purity of a Red Burgundy with the savory and spicy complexity of a Northern Rhone Syrah. That's exactly what you get in Carlos Raposo's marvelous Impecavel Touriga Nacional, and I think it deserves mention as one of the great red wine values in the world.

Produced entirely from organic and biodynamic, old vine Touriga Nacional, it is one of the purest and most elegant expressions of the grape I've ever encountered. What's amazing to me is that this is only the second vintage of this wine ever produced, and it's already getting rave reviews from the likes of Jancis Robinson, John Gilman, and the Wine Advocate.

If you want to "get in" on this one before it really gets noticed and the price doubles or triples, the time is now. We've got 84 bottles up for grabs at deal pricing.

2022 Carlos Raposo 'Impecavel' Touriga Nacional
Why should you buy it?
  • The Dao region is often-called the "Burgundy of Portugal." I can get behind that, as there's a purity and elegance to this one, but I find it also possesses some of the spicy, meaty, and floral notes of a Northern Rhone Syrah too.
  • Vintage 2022 was EXTREME -- hot and dry conditions gave us a tiny crop of concentrated, intense, and rich wines, and this shows more power and structure than the 2021 did. Not better or worse, just different.....
  • Despite the wine's deeper style this vintage, it is still quite refined, fine-grained, and balanced. The flavor and tasting notes I picked up while enjoying a bottle recently were many, varied, and complex.
  • Gorgeous on the nose -- blueberry, dark cherry, leather, smoked meat, and spice. Even better on the palate -- full-bodied yet elegant, earthy, ripe, and lengthy.

My advice -- get outside of your comfort zone, and try something new. Wines like this one, made by one of the best vignerons in the country, are still way underpriced. Mark my words, that will change soon.....

Enjoy this complex and complete red wine with grilled meats, earthy mushrooms and root vegetables, or sip slowly, and observe the wine's steady evolution in the glass.
