In Dunnuck's history of writing about and reviewing wines, this is one of the only ones he has scored 95 points that has retailed for less than $20. A candidate for the top red wine value of all time, this is a total no-brainer.

Jeb Dunnuck has consistently praised this wine, but he's never rated it higher than he did this vintage. In the past, he's compared Bastide Miraflors to a wine from cult producer Sine Qua Non. Not familiar with them? There’s a good reason for that, as there’s an 8 year waiting list to get on their mailing list, and their wines would run you $150+.

It offers loads of black fruits, roasted herbs, peppered meat, violets, and bacon fat as well as full-bodied richness, a round, opulent style, ripe tannins, and a blockbuster finish. A joint project between importer Eric Solomon and Jean-Marc Lafage, this old vine cuvee is made with organically grown Syrah and Grenache from the sunny vineyards of the Roussillon. The Syrah comes from well-drained, gravelly soils near the Mediterranean while the Grenache comes from the schist and granite soils near Maury. After a long, six week maceration, the wine ages for a year in a combination of concrete vats and French oak.
The resulting wine is a hedonistic yet balanced pleasure bomb of a wine to drink now and over the next 5 years. There's a terrific balance of perfectly ripened fruit and more savory, spicy, and meaty notes. All in all, it all comes together to create one of the greatest red wine values in the galaxy.
