While many Pinot Grigios are light and simple, this is a very different animal. A bit of skin contact and extended lees aging gives this its beautiful golden color and adds another dimension of texture to the palate. The resulting wine is full-bodied, full-flavored, and fully delicious.

Coming from organically farmed vineyards in the Haloze Hills of Slovenia's Stajerska region, this offers up enticing aromas and flavors of peach, pear, orange peel, and citrus blossom on a creamy and giving palate. It really has the kind of character and presence that I look for in the best examples of the variety.
Honestly, this is every bit as good as, if not better than, many top-rated Italian Pinot Grigios selling for $30 or more. That's pretty remarkable, and it's a great example of why looking beyond the usual suspects can pay off in a big way.
