A Grenache Lover's Dream Wine: 2018 Domaine Lafage Cuvee Nicolas

A Grenache Lover's Dream Wine: 2018 Domaine Lafage Cuvee Nicolas

Grenache Lovers Unite! The 2018 Lafage Cuvee Nicolas is absolutely delicious, and we're offering this one up at one of the best prices in the country. We previously featured the 2019 version of this one, and it was a hit. I promise you the 2018 is just as good, and you can't beat the price.

100% Grenache from 65 year old vines grown in the rocky soils of the Roussillon, the wine is named after Jean-Marc and Eliane Lafage's son. It is a wine that is best described with two words -- PLEASURE BENT!

Team Lafage has done it again, crafting an absolutely delicious and decadent red wine that sells for a song. I honestly don't know  how they produce such incredible wines at such low prices, but I don't ask questions. I just keep buying them and offering them up to you all at prices that compete with far inferior wines you'd find at the grocery store.

Cuvee Nicolas showcases all of the "good stuff" Grenache grown in Southern France has to offer. It's deep in color, it's packed with ripe fruit notes, and it's round and texturally sublime. Some of the grapes come from the red schist soils of Aspres, in the Pyrenees foothills, while the remaining grapes from the black schist soils of Maury. On average, the vines are 65-70 years old, and all of the farming is done organically. Fermented in stainless steel and aged for 12 months in a mixture of concrete vats and French oak demi-muids, the resulting wine is sensational.

The Wine Advocate summed it up nicely. "The 2018 Nicolas is 100% Grenache, still aging in a combination of demi-muids and tanks. There's a floral top note accenting ripe black cherries on the nose, while the palate is medium to full-bodied, supple and creamy, finally finishing with a touch of velvet and spice. It should be a beauty when released later in the year." I have nothing to add, other than my notes were nearly identical to the Wine Advocate's.

This gorgeous Grenache should offer at least 5 years of great drinking. Thus, I highly advise you to take advantage of the volume deal pricing. You won't regret it, and you'll love sipping on this one with or without food. A wine that will appeal to plenty of palates, once those 108 bottles are gone, so is the deal pricing.
