Table Wine is South Asheville’s best wine store, and we never shy away from stocking wines that require some salesmanship, especially when they are this good.
Avinyo wines are produced by the Esteve Nadal family (no relation to Rafael) in the Penedes region, near Barcelona. Most of their vineyards were planted 50 or so years ago, and the family is known as one of Spain’s top Cava producers. We stock their Cava and absolutely love it, but this little wine is something entirely different.

The Vi D’Agulla is produced with 100% organically farmed Muscat Blanc Petit Grains, one of the most ancient grape varieties on the planet. The wine is fermented in stainless steel, and then a secondary fermentation is carried out in tank as well to give the wine a slight bubble.
When poured in the glass, there is a definite sparkle to the wine, and the aroma is stunning with lime, peach, honeysuckle, and honeydew notes. The smell made me think that the wine was going to be sweet like a Moscato d’Asti, but this one is completely dry on the palate. It is a somewhat delicate wine, so I would advise pairing it with light, flaky fish, sushi or salads.
The wine is brought to us by Andre Tamers of De Maison Selections, a Chapel Hill based importer of Spanish and French wines from small family estates. Many of the Spanish wines at the store are brought to you by Mr. Tamers, who has a great reputation nationwide.
