Scattered Peaks Cabernet Sauvignon

97 Point-Rated Napa Cabernet - 2015 Scattered Peaks Cabernet Sauvignon

SOLD OUT! Napa Cab lovers unite around the 2015 Scattered Peaks Cabernet Sauvignon! Debut vintage, top winemaker, less than $40, and a huge score from Britain’s top wine mag.

Trust me, Decanter is pretty stingy with scores, but they loved this one. “Roasted herb, coffee, black cherry and blackberry fruit compote on the nose. The palate is rich and concentrated but never heavy, with a lively acidity providing a sense of movement. Tannins are mighty and show that this will blossom with more time. 93% Cabernet Sauvignon, 4% Merlot, 1% Petit Verdot.”

SOLD OUT

Many of you are already onto this one. We poured it a few weeks back at our Napa Cab Super Saturday Wine Tasting. You all loved it and bought us out. Luckily, I was able to secure the last 30 six-packs of the 2015 vintage, and now I’m offering it up to you. I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again, this will not last long, and there’s no more to get once it’s gone until the new vintage is released.

This brand new winery is headed up by legendary, Napa Valley winemaker Joel Aiken. Prior to Scattered Peaks, he crafted the reserve wines for Beaulieu Vineyards for 27 years, specifically the Georges de Latour Reserve Cab. Not a bad resume huh? These days, in addition to Scattered Peaks, Aiken consults for a few other top-notch wineries.

The wine is composed of a mixture of valley floor and mountain fruit, and that’s what I love about it. There’s a lush and opulent side to the wine, but there’s also good structure here. The valley floor fruit exudes cassis and dark cherry, while the mountain fruit provides complex notes of sage, anise, and violet. And lastly, the wine was aged for 18 months in French oak, 50% new — this adds attractive aromas and flavors of vanilla and dark chocolate.

That’s all I’ve got for you today. I think I’m going to head home and enjoy a bottle of this one tonight. You should do the same! Until we meet again, cheers to happy drinking and eating in Asheville.
