Rhone Master Jeb Dunnuck said, “Coming from a joint project between Michel Gassier, Philippe Cambie and Eric Solomon, the 2016 Cercius White is terrific, with hints of peach, citrus blossom, flowers, and Meyer lemon all emerging from the glass. Medium-bodied, fresh and lively, with both richness and freshness, it’s high class all the way and is more than worth its going rate. The blend is 70% Grenache Blanc and 30% Sauvignon, aged all in tank.” I concur with Mr. Dunnuck, as I usually do. This is a ton of wine for the money!

Jeb also referred to the 2016 Southern Rhone vintage as “heavenly,” and he’s right. Hot and dry days and cool nights are what propelled this vintage to legendary status. And veterans like Michel Gassier had no trouble capitalizing on these favorable conditions. The Cercius Blanc comes from 25+ year old vineyards just outside of Avignon and Costieres de Nimes. It is fermented in concrete eggs and is aged on its fine lees (spent yeast cells) for 5 months before bottling. Lees aging contributes texture and complex spice notes to the wine, in case you were wondering.

Mr. Dunnuck’s review is pretty much spot-on with mine. I have nothing to add other than to say you should get some! A great spring and summer white wine if ever there was one, you’ll be happy drinking this one with friends, fish, and sunshine. Cheers and happy drinking and eating in Asheville.
