How's a 93-point Super Tuscan from a pedigreed producer for less than $30 sound? Tua Rita's Rosso dei Notri is just that, and it is undoubtedly one of Tuscany's greatest red wine values.
Wine Enthusiast called this a "truly outstanding deal," rating it 92 points. They went on to say it offers a "floral, earthy, fresh nose, with a precision of fruit and graphitic edge even as it offers that warmth and a mouthfeel that's luxurious." I concur!

Rita Tua (second from left) and her family.

Tua Rita isn't new to the "Super Tuscan League." In fact, they were just the second-ever Italian winery to earn a 100-point score from Wine Advocate. Founded in 1984 by Rita Tua and her husband Virgilio, they are without question one of Tuscany's most prized estates, and part of what makes them unique is the fact that most of their vineyards are planted to Bordeaux varieties.
Their 2023 Rosso dei Notri is a blend of 40% Cabernet Sauvignon, 40% Merlot, 10% Cabernet Franc, and 10% Syrah brought up in stainless steel and aged in older oak casks. The family makes Rosso dei Notri to be enjoyed upon release, and I can confirm the '23 is drinking quite well.
Despite the blend of "bigger" grapes, this is elegant, refined, and open-knit. I had a glass after work last night, and after a few swirls of the glass, it released its bouquet of ripe cherry, raspberry, candied violet, and wild herbs, along with more complex scents of graphite and leather. Medium to full-bodied on the palate, it's juicy, silky, and long, and it will offer great drinking over the next 5 to 7 years.
All of the major critics rated this at 89-93 points, and I think they're all correct in that assessment. All in all, this offers up classy Super Tuscan character at a great price!
