If I were teaching a class on the white wines of Southern Burgundy, this is the wine I would use. It checks all of the boxes with its classic Burgundian profile of ripe and creamy apple and pear balanced by lemony freshness and minerality. Wine Spectator, who listed a suggested price of $25, liked it too: "This vibrant white exudes apple, lemon and stone flavors. Well-structured, ending with a touch of citrus zest. Balanced and long."
A big part of the wine's success is the fact that all winemaking is overseen by famed oenologist Nadine Gublin. She was the first-ever female to be named Winemaker of the Year by France's famed wine publication, La Revue du Vin de France, and she has worked with some of the region's top producers, most notably as lead winemaker at Domaine Jacque Prieur.
All I can tell you is that she got this wine right! Fermented entirely in stainless steel and aged on the fine lees for 8 months, this throws serious Saint-Véran vibes. There's great concentration to the pure and luscious fruit character, but it remains light on its feet due to bright and vivid acidity.
I picked up the obvious notes of pear, citrus, and apple, but as you sit with this one, it actually becomes more engaging and complex. Let it come up in temperature just a bit, and you should detect notes of lemon curd, honeysuckle, delicate spice, orange zest, and crushed rock.
