Pedraneira Albarino

2023 Eulogio Pomares Pedraneira Albarino

Fento Pedraneira Albarino

Many of you have loved the Fento Albarino and for good reason, it's delicious!

Even better, their single-vineyard, 95-point-rated Pedraneira Albarino was Robert Parker's Wine Advocate's top-rated Albarino of the 2023 vintage, with a suggested retail of $45....we can beat that!

Fento is the "pet project" of Eulogio Pomares, aka the "Albarino Whisperer" and one of the finest vignerons in all of Galicia. Just 275 cases produced, and it's one of the top 2 or 3 Albarinos I've ever tried.

It is also a testament to the fact that carefully-tended, old vine Albarino belongs in the same class as top-flight White Burgundy. Albarino just costs a lot less, and I'm offering this one up at one of the best prices in the US, AND I just bought my supplier's remaining stock.

Grand Cru Albarino, I like the ring of that, and that's exactly what you're getting if you buy this. When you get this golden-colored, concentrated, full-bodied, and salty white wine into your glass, I think you will concur.

Why Should You Buy It?

  • From extreme sites come extremely delicious wines. Pedraneira is the most coastal plot within the Francon Vineyard, and the roots of these 45-year-old vines are in direct contact with the sea. You can totally taste that oceanic influence with every sip!
  • These well-drained, sandy soils stress these old, organically-farmed vines and give us an Albarino with tremendous concentration and deep and complex flavors. In fact, this plot of vines used to be blended into Pazo de Senoran's spectacular Seleccion de Anada.
  • Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2023 Pedraneira is phenomenal, serious, austere, elegant and subtle. It comes from a vineyard called Francón in Castrelo (Cambados) on the banks of the Umia River, with vines planted 35 years ago on clay soils by the water. It has restraint and feels very harmonious, with contained ripeness and 12.5% alcohol, a very elegant mouthfeel and a tasty finish. This is superb!
  • Hand-harvested and fermented with native yeasts in large, French oak foudres, it spends 6 months on the lees and completes full malolactic fermentation. The finished wine is long, taut, and complex, balancing broad and ample texture with electric acidity.
  • Brimming with gorgeous aromas and flavors of nectarine, white peach, preserved lemon, juicy citrus, and saline minerality, it is full-bodied, palate-coating, and a complete joy ride of a white wine. Drink now through 2032.

What a wine, what a story, and what a blessing to be able to sell and share wines that bring me so much joy. Whether you live in Asheville or not, if you see this bottle of wine, buy it. I can't wait to enjoy a bottle with something from the sea, some green veggies, and some good friends.
