2022 Plantamura 'Parco Lago' Primitivo

2022 Plantamura Primitivo 'Parco Lago'

Plantamura Parco Lago Primitivo

Plantamura is that idyllic Italian estate you want all of your wines to come from. Family-owned, small, certified organic, and very hands-on, Mariangela Plantamura and her family make their wines in a tiny cellar just behind their house. They also make one of my favorite Primitivos in all of Puglia. This is it!

Coming from cooler and hillier Gioia del Colle section of Puglia, in the heel of Italy's boot, this shows the more elegant and refined side of the grape. If you want to take a deeper dive on Plantamura and Primitivo from Gioia del Colle Primitivo, click HERE for a well-written article from Wine Spectator.

If you don't have time, no problem, just know that while this isn't a big, dark, and chewy Primitivo, it is still packed with flavor.

2022 Plantamura 'Parco Lago' Primitivo -- Why Should You Buy It?

  • Plantamura is one of the most respected Primitivo producers in all of Puglia. To be able to get "one of the best" wines of a classic region for just $24 is not a phrase you'll hear me say too often.
  • Flowing with notes of brambly macerated strawberry, cherry, plum, and spice, this shows wonderful freshness and nerve on the palate.
  • It is ripe without being heavy, overly alcoholic, or full-bodied. Like I said, there's a lively character to this wine that keeps your mouth watering and keeps you coming back for sip after sip.
  • Fermented entirely in stainless steel, this shows the pure and natural side of the grape with effortless ease.

In the words of my friend and importer Jay Murrie, "I’d propose making Margherita pizzas in the Ooni or on the grill, with the best mozzarella di bufala that you can procure. Spicy shrimp spaghetti with the Parco Lago is a treat, too." Yep, this one is food-friendly, but it performs well without food too....
