The 2022 Petrolo Torrione is a mind-bendingly good Super Tuscan from one of the region's great estates. It's not just me that thinks this, the Wine Advocate gave it its highest-ever score at 94 points, Wine Enthusiast had it at 94 points, and Wine Spectator and Decanter had it at 92 points.

Torrione is mostly Sangiovese with a touch of Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon, and it is drinking beautifully right now. Deep ruby with a garnet rim, the nose is loaded with ripe black cherry, wild berries, crushed violets, tobacco, cedar, and warm spice. The palate is plush and structured, with juicy plum, dark chocolate, fine-grained tannins, lively acidity, and a long finish of graphite and dried herbs.
This is a seriously good Super Tuscan with both power and finesse, and it has a proven track record of getting better with age. While I don't think I'll be tucking much away -- it's drinking great now -- it will age and add complexity over the next 7 to 10 years.
