Gulfi's Nerojbleo is pure Nero d'Avola, and it's pure pleasure on the palate! Deep, ripe, rich, and polished, this is a world-class red made by one of Sicily's pioneering producers.
"Gulfi is one of the innovators and trailblazers of the region—literally putting it on the international map." - Eric Guido, Vinous Media
The Catania family have run this revered estate for 3 generations, and their Nerojbleo is their flagship wine. A classic rendition of Nero d'Avola, "the palate is round and supple, with ripe red and black fruits offset by savory herbal tones," said Vinous Media, who rated this 92 points.
I agree with them, and I think our price of $27.99/bottle (no further discounts) is more than fair, and we bought most of what was allocated to WNC.....

Matteo Catania follows in the footsteps of his father Vito and grandfather Raffaele, who established Gulfi as one of Sicily's top estates. He continues to focus entirely on native Sicilian varieties, grown in the traditional "alberello" style. This ancient Roman technique champions old bush vines that support themselves, are self-shading, ripen slowly, and require no additional irrigation.
This type of farming stresses the vines to the max, coaxing out intense, powerful and detailed aromas and flavors. All of those things are in full force and clearly evident when you get Gulfi's 2022 Nerojbleo into your glass. Produced from the estate's oldest vines, located near the famed DOCG of Cerasuolo di Vittoria, this sees 12 months of aging in French oak.
The finished wine can best be summed up with one word: MAJESTIC! Deeply colored in the glass, this delights the senses with highly attractive notes of warm blueberry, spiced plum, dark chocolate, violet, and savory herbs. What really grabbed me was the plush, opulent, and luxurious palate -- this is one of those full-bodied and full-flavored reds that is silky smooth and balanced. Delicious!
A great alternative to Napa Cab or Mendoza Malbec, this is drinking beautifully now, and it would accompany standing rib roast or lamb chops at this year's Christmas dinner.
Just $27.99/bottle, and that is the best price -- no further discounts, as this 20% off the regular price of $34.99.
