Allan Scott strikes again, but it's not with their award-winning Sauvignon Blanc, it's with their newly released, 92 point-rated Pinot Noir! In my book, this wine qualifies as one of the best Pinot Noir values on the planet.

Do you know how hard it is to find delicious, 92 point-rated Pinot Noir that retails for less than $25? Let me answer that question for you. REALLY, REALLY HARD! Pinot Noir is one of the most challenging grapes to grow. Its thin skins, tight clusters, and late ripening combine to make this grape a farmer's headache during the growing season, as these factors make it prone to all sorts of environmental conditions.
When things go well though, it produces one of the finest and most sensual wines in the world. Trust me, things went very well for Allan Scott's Pinot Noir in the 2020 vintage. Here's a wine that offers the best of both worlds. Think one part Sonoma Coast, the other part Oregon, and then sprinkle in a bit of Red Burgundy, and that is what you get here.
It should come as no surprise that Allan Scott has produced one of New Zealand’s top Pinot Noirs of the vintage. He is an icon and has worked every harvest since 1973. He’s credited with planting some of Marlborough’s most famous vineyards, including the very first. His intuition to plant his vineyards in some of the coolest parts of Marlborough has paid off, and it is clearly evident in this wonderfully balanced Pinot Noir.
Wine Spectator summed it up nicely. "Delivers a core of juicy, vibrant cherry, cranberry and pomegranate notes, with spice, white pepper, tobacco and a hint of cocoa on the velvety finish. Drink now through 2040. 1,000 cases imported." Yep, my notes were very similar -- ripe red fruits galore, exotic spice, mocha, and super silky tannins. Buy as much as you can! That is exactly what I did -- I bought my distributor out.
There's really not much left to say. If you love Pinot Noir as much as I do, I highly recommend you get some of this before it's gone. Although this drinks wonderfully well without food, I highly recommend you give it a sip with roast chicken, pork tenderloin, or salmon. Keep drinking and eating the good stuff in Asheville!
