2019 Solena Pinot Gris

2019 Soléna Pinot Gris

SOLD OUT! The 2019 Soléna Pinot Gris is really something special this vintage. Rated 92 points by Wine Enthusiast, this is my pick for Oregon’s top Pinot Gris deal.

Ripe, fleshy, exotic, and crisp, this is a great all season white wine. It’s a bit fuller and heavier in style, but it maintains wonderful freshness at the same time.

SOLD OUT

When Oregon Pinot Gris is done right, it is one of the best domestic white wine values out there. Trust me, the 2019 Solena Pinot Gris is one of Oregon’s top renditions of this wine, but it’s certainly not the most expensive.

Wine Enthusiast raved about this one. “Soléna kills it with this grape, and this is the best vintage yet. Classy wine styling is here on full display, with ripe and fleshy fruit flavors of pear and melon, alongside splendid details of cinnamon and toast. It’s taken decades, but Oregon’s best examples of Pinot Gris belong with the nation’s top-tier white wines from any grape.” Bold statements in that review huh? Yep, but they’re 100% accurate.

Husband and wife Laurent and Danielle Andrus Montalieu started Soléna after successful careers in the Oregon wine industry. Laurent was previously the winemaker at Willakenzie Estate and his wife Danielle has quite the resume as well. Her father was the founder of Napa’s Pine Ridge Winery, where she grew up surrounded by wine. After college, Danielle and her family moved to Oregon where they founded Archery Summit. I think we can agree that this power couple knows a thing or two about making great wine.

The duo launched Soléna in 2002, and the praise, big scores, and awards have followed. Today, they produce Pinot Noir and Pinot Gris from their estate vineyards. And I very much like their Pinot Noirs, but it’s their Pinot Gris that really grabs me every year. From the first sniff to the last sip, it’s an incredibly satisfying bottle of white wine.

Great by itself, it’s even better with food and it is extremely versatile. From salmon and ham to poultry and spicy Asian cuisine, this one really adds to the dining experience. My advice is to buy 6, and enjoy with or without food through these cooler months. Cheers to happy drinking and eating in Asheville!
