Pinot Project Pinot Noir 2018

2019 Pinot Project Pinot Noir

The 2019 Pinot Project Pinot Noir is a wine that happens maybe once or twice a decade. “Put together” by famed wine importer Michael Skurnik, the 2019 is another stellar rendition of this wine.

Rated 91 points by Wine Enthusiast (again) and less than $15 per bottle, it’s the top Pinot value in the United States.

It’s Josh here folks. You all know I’m picky about my Pinot Noir, no matter what the price is. When I tasted the new vintage of the Pinot Project Pinot Noir, I immediately bought a bunch. This is that elusive, sub-$15 Pinot Noir everyone is looking for. Soft and silky but full of flavor, this could easily pass for a $25 Sonoma County Pinot Noir.

And that’s no surprise because the Pinot Project is put together by the team at Skurnik Wines, one of the finest importers and wholesalers in the US. Back in 2009, company founder Michael Skurnik was sick and tired of tasting horrible, under-$15, domestic Pinot Noir. Trust me, they were abundant back then! He decided to go to his top producers in Sonoma, Monterey, and Santa Barbara counties.

That’s where the Pinot Project was born and that’s where we are today. Click here to check out Skurnik’s Pinot Noir producers in California. Pretty impressive to say the least, but no one is spilling the beans. Nope, this is a wine put together with grapes and finished wines from top producers and rising stars. But the fine folks at Skurnik can’t disclose their fruit sources because many of these folks sell their wines for $50+!

No, this doesn’t taste like $50 Pinot Noir. But I think Wine Enthusiast described it perfectly: “Pure and expressive, this wine is more than just fruity, adding enticing black-tea and forest-floor notes to its tasty cherry and rhubarb core. Medium to full bodied, it offers fine-grained tannins to firm up the texture. This is the third excellent vintage in a row for this remarkable value wine. Best Buy.”

A perfect “House Pinot Noir,” this is “serious” enough to enhance the flavors of turkey, chicken, salmon, and root veggies. Drink, eat, and be merry this holiday season. Cheers!
