Lewis Cellars has a cult following among Napa Cab lovers, and their 2019 Racecar Red is 100% Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon that is “geared” for pleasure. Possessing classic Lewis richness and class at a fraction of the price, this one is going to go fast. No pun intended :)
Winery founder Randy Lewis was an Indy 500 driver, and his Racecar Red combines his two passions — fast cars and stylish wines. Trust me, this stuff is delicious, and it’s the cheapest way to get Lewis Cab into your glass.

Lewis's Cabs are the essence of Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon. They are deep, rich, opulent, and polished, and I've always had a soft spot for them.
In case you forgot, Lewis Cellars produced Wine Spectator’s #1 wine in 2016. It was their Napa Cabernet Sauvignon. Unfortunately, that one isn’t easy to come by these days. But Lewis’s Racecar Red, though far from abundant, is luckily available. After tasting it last week, I bought every bottle my distributor had, and when you taste it, you’ll understand why.
Composed of 100% Cabernet Sauvignon using younger vine fruit from some of their top-rated vineyards, this one sees 12 months of aging in French oak. The resulting wine is rich and ripe yet balanced and nuanced. The nose if packed with aromas of ripe dark fruits, sweet vanilla, and dark chocolate. The palate offers up similar flavors of black and blue berries, nicely integrated oak, and fine grained tannins.
All in all, this is a wonderful Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon crafted by one of the best teams in the game. Soft and plush enough to enjoy without food, it would be wonderful with a classic steakhouse meal. With just 5 cases in-house and a price that is hard to beat, this one will make a rapid exit out of the store.
