I’ve been on the hunt for cool weather white wines, and the 2019 Inama Soave Classico is perfect. From one of the reference-point estates in the DOCG, this is full and flavor-packed yet fresh and vivacious. The fresh, new vintage will definitely follow in the footsteps of the last three vintages, which all scored 90+ points. I’ll guarantee it!
Soave gets “thrown under bus” a lot and for good reason. So many Soaves are bland and boring, but in the hands of a top producer like Inama, you get a white wine that ranks with the best of the best of Italy. Give it a try!

Now in its third generation of leadership, the Inama family has been producing wine for over forty years in the Veneto. In the 1950’s, prior to founding the estate, Giuseppe Inama began to slowly buy small plots of vineyards in the center of the Soave Classico region. He was one the early, quality-minded producers who understood the area’s potential. And today, the family makes their Soave with only top-quality Garganega grapes from these old, low yielding vines.
That brings us to Garganega, the grape responsible for the best Soaves. In its northern homeland – the Veneto region of northeastern Italy – Garganega is held in very high regard, both in the vineyard and the winery. Growers appreciate the variety’s generous yields, and the loose-knit bunch structure, which increases ventilation and reduces the risk of fungal disease. Winemakers also appreciate the grape for its moderate acidity, elegant perfume, and high concentration of aroma compounds. And this is a wine with bountiful aromas and flavors.
The 2019 Inama Soave Classico is fermented entirely in stainless steel with native yeasts to preserve freshness and aromatics. Soaring notes of peach blossom, almond, apricot, and baked golden apples show up in the bouquet and on the palate. Beautifully pure, straw/golden in color, and medium to full bodied, this is just a lovely Italian white to enjoy with the flavors of fall.
I’m thinking this would be amazing with some roasted and caramelized root vegetables served alongside poultry, pork, and richer seafood dishes. But it’s got enough “stuff” to make for a great autumn and winter aperitif.
