Vintage 2019 was another strong year for the producers of Burgundy, and the 2019 Domaine Talmard Macon-Chardonnay is a prime example. Hailing from the village of Chardonnay, this un-oaked chardonnay balances plush and ripe fruit with zesty acidity.
This is a wine we struggle to keep in stock, and it's become both a customer and staff favorite. If you like it, I'd highly recommend you take advantage of the volume pricing.

Founded in 1971 by two brothers, Domaine Talmard is located in the village of Chardonnay. It is here that experts believe the chardonnay grape originated. The estate farms 50 acres of chardonnay, and their entire production focuses on this one wine. The family farms according to the principles of lutte raisonee (reasoned fight), an integrated farming approach that uses both organic and sustainable methods.
At this point, the estate’s vines average 30+ years of age, and when you combine that with the high quality of the 2019 vintage, you’ve got the makings of a wonderful wine. The Talmards like to pick their chardonnay grapes a bit early to maintain bright and refreshing acidity. In the warm and sunny ’19 vintage, that acidity is balanced by perfectly ripened and classic flavors of un-oaked chardonnay.
The 2019 Domaine Talmard Macon-Chardonnay is the essence of pure, crystalline, no oak, no malo chardonnay. In stark contrast to a rich and buttery style of chardonnay, this one shows high-pitched notes of pineapple, lemon drop, flowers and flinty mineral. Possessing some of the characteristics of Chablis, but with a plusher and riper texture, this is a chardonnay that scores 91-92 points in my book.
Finished with a stelvin (screwcap) closure, this one is ready to twist open, pour and enjoy. Ideal as an aperitif, it would also make a fine pairing partner for rotisserie chicken, salmon, or other classic weeknight meals.
