2022 Arnaud Lambert Saumur Blanc 'Clos de Midi'

Crunchy, Minerally, Electric White Wine: Lambert Saumur Blanc 'Midi'

Arnaud Lambert Midi Saumur Blanc

My true colors are showing this holiday season. I love Chenin Blanc, it's my favorite white wine at the moment, and I've got two different ones on deal -- click HERE to check out the other one. Key point is they're both fantastic, but very different.

Arnaud Lambert's 'Midi' Saumur Blanc comes from the famed hill of Breze, holy ground for this old and noble grape. He and his family farm their vines without chemicals, and their Midi Blanc is a master class in Chenin's ability to balance ripeness with acidity and fruit with minerality.

2022 Arnaud Lambert Saumur Blanc 'Midi': Why should you buy it?

  • Breze is a hill in Saumur that has been producing riveting, contemplative, and world-class Chenin for hundreds of years. If the Loire Valley classified their sites like Burgundy does, Breze would be one of the first-named Grand Crus.
  • The flavors of this wine are diverse, complex, and complete. Honeyed citrus, freshly sliced green apple, orange peel, and crushed rock are all on display in this heady and exotic white.
  • Father and son Yves and Arnaud Lambert took over this site in 2009. Today, the vineyards are healthier than ever, as the duo farm with minimal or zero chemicals, depending on what the vintage throws their way.
  • To get a wine of this quality-level from Vouvray or Savennieres, you'd have to pay $40 to $50 or more. My wine geeks know this to be the truth....

Drink more Chenin Blanc folks, the grape is going through a similar renaissance as Albarino, and it deserves your love. This one would be amazing with a pork tenderloin, slow-roasted with apples and herbs. It also makes for an awakening aperitif, as it will get the juices flowing.
