Argiolas is one of Sardinia's most oldest and most respected estates, and they craft one of the greatest Vermentinos on the planet. This is it! Their 'Is Argiolas' Vermentino takes this Mediterranean varietal to new heights.
Produced from older vines that they harvest later, it is one of those white wines that coats every taste bud with luscious flavors. I just had a bottle of this one last night, and I can guarantee you it will snag another 93-95 point rating.
Unfortunately, demand has gone up for this one, and I was only able to secure 120 bottles. Being that this one has loyal "fan club," I wouldn't wait too long to place your order...
2023 Argiolas ‘Is Argiolas’ Vermentino
One of the top Vermentinos in the world!
Talk about a joy ride of a wine! There's sublime concentration backed up by aromas and flavors of white peach, apricot, caramelized citrus, tropical fruits, and honeysuckle. You can tell that the fine folks at Argiolas put a ton of TLC into their 'Is Argiolas' Vermentino, the top white wine produced at the estate.
Despite the wine's weight and full body, it remains light on its feet due to Vermentino's naturally bright acidity. The past 5 vintages of this one have garnered numerous big scores, and the '23 is in the same league as prior vintages. For those who love richer and riper Sauvignon Blancs and/or Viogniers, do yourself a favor and try this.
If you know anything about Sardinian wine, you know that Argiolas is one of the best producers on the island. Founded in 1938 by Antonio Argiolas, the estate is still family owned and operated. From the beginning, they’ve chosen quality over quantity, and they’ve dedicated themselves to producing archetypal wines from native varietals.
Year in and year out, this is one of their best efforts. Fermented in stainless steel to preserve freshness, the wine is aged for 8 months on the lees, which gives the wine its fine texture and delicate spice notes. Try it with richer meatier fish -- think tuna, swordfish, or salmon.
