2018 Palacio del Burgo Rioja Tinto

2018 Palacio del Burgo Rioja Tinto

If you’re looking for a splendid Tempranillo value, the the 2018 Palacio del Burgo Rioja Tinto is the wine for you. The entry-level red from Burgo Viejo, it’s a ton of wine for the money.

100% Tempranillo aged for 6 months in American oak, the wine recently snagged a 90 point score from James Suckling. After tasting it with my team this past week, I agree with his score on this one. And the price is going to make this very attractive to a lot of folks.

Burgo Viejo is a producer many of you are familiar with, as we sell a ton of their Crianza. The winery’s entry-level red is just as good of a value, and it’s a wine that offers a ton of upfront charm at terrific price. Suckling described it as a “fruity and plummy wine with just a hint of strawberry jam” with “velvety tannins and a flavorful finish.” Yep, that pretty much sums it up.

This 35 year-old estate is owned and operated by sixteen families, all working together. Over the years, Burgo Viejo has garnered a reputation as one of the top value producers in all of Rioja. When you taste this big glass of comfort, you’ll understand immediately what I’m talking about.

It’s certainly not the most complex Rioja I’ve ever encountered, but I’m a sucker for wines like this. It’s just pure, ripe, and pleasure-bent in so many ways. I can’t wait to enjoy this with big old burger with caramelized onions and blue cheese. I highly recommend you do the same.
