2015 Jean Manciat Saint Veran - Table Wine - Asheville, North Carolina

2015 Jean Manciat Saint-Veran - Splendid White Burgundy Value

SOLD OUT! The 2015 Jean Manciat Saint-Veran is one of the best White Burgundy values I’ve ever tasted! The glorious 2015 vintage has yielded a concentrated, complex, and stylish Chardonnay that will delight White Burgundy lovers.

Jean Manciat is one of the top small growers and producers in the Maconnais, and his Saint-Veran is his smallest production wine. He makes 300 cases per year, only 5 cases made it to North Carolina, and his 2015 is delightful. Oh yeah, I bought all 5 cases that made it to North Carolina.

2015 Jean Manciat Saint-Veran

Concentrated, rich, tiny production White Burgundy!

Jean Manciat owns just over an acre of vineyards in Saint-Veran, one of the top Chardonnay villages in the Maconnais, in Southern Burgundy. His vines are mature and grow in a combination of sand and limestone, much like the soil type that is responsible for the prestigious and much more expensive Chardonnays of the Cotes de Beaune. Manciat farms with integrated pest management to avoid using chemical sprays, he harvests by hand, and he ferments with whole clusters and native yeasts. He ferments his Saint-Veran in used French oak barriques, ages on the lees with regular batonnage, and bottles with light fining and filtration.

This natural, slow, and traditional approach to farming and winemaking is what I look for in all of the special wines we stock at Table Wine. And this stuff is seriously special! Possessing a classic White Burgundy nose of spiced pear, apple, flint, white flowers, and white truffle, this is full, rich, and highly stylish white wine.

It totally reminds me more of wines from the “higher rent” districts of Burgundy. Drink this beauty over the next 5 or 6 years and make sure to enjoy at least one bottle with a meal. I’m thinking hard seared scallops………..de-glaze your pan with a little bit of this wine, reduce, add a dollop of butter, and pour that pan sauce right over your scallops. Elegant, regal, refined, delicious — just like this wine!
