SOLD OUT! The 2014 Gini Soave Classico is one of Italy’s great white wines, and it sells for a song. There is a lot of boring, mass produced, inexpensive Soave out there, and I advise you to avoid those like the plague.
Not all Soaves are created equally, and the 2014 Gini Soave Classico will immediately bring you to this realization. Possessing beautiful color, plump texture, and complexity of flavor, it is without a doubt the best Soave I’ve ever tasted.
2014 Gini Soave Classico
Not your typical bland and washed out Soave, not even close!
I convinced a couple of skeptics to try a bottle recently…..they both called back within 48 hours to order more. Did I get your attention yet? The 2014 Gini Soave Classico is our new Wine of the Week, it’s a perfect summer wine.
The Gini family has cultivated vineyards in the Veneto since 1600! The same family making the same wine in the same place for almost 420 years with each successive generation passing down their knowledge and expertise to the next. While many producers with this pedigree either lose focus or sell, the Gini clan forge on and make the best Soaves in the Veneto.
I’m not the only one who says this — famed wine writer Stephen Tanzer of Vinous Media says “Claudio and Sandro Gini have always made some of the best Soaves.” I agree with Mr. Tanzer, and I think their 2014 might be the best I’ve ever tasted from them.
Composed entirely of Garganega from the family’s well situated, certified organic, hillside vineyards, you can literally smell and taste the Veneto sunshine with each sip. Almost golden in color, the wine smells of summer peach, pear, honeysuckle and almond. The palate is round, rich and juicy with uplifting acidity and thirst-quenching deliciousness.
Those are my notes — here are the notes from The Wine Enthusiast who awarded the 2014 with its third consecutive 90 point score: “Vibrant and savory, this polished white offers scents of perfumed white flower and ripe orchard fruit. The tangy palate doles out Granny Smith apple, white peach and juicy tangerine. Crisp acidity provides balance while a mineral note energizes the clean finish.”
