$15 Tuscan Red, Drinks Like $25: Barbanera Ser Passo is Back!

After a long absence, Barbanera’s Ser Passo is back in stock and back on deal. If you know it, you love it. If you don’t, I think it’s time to fix that.

Barbanera Ser Passo

This is one I never have to think twice about recommending. When someone asks me for a rich, smooth, crowd-pleasing Tuscan red under $15, Ser Passo is the wine I always take them to. I'm so glad it's back!

The 2024 Ser Passo is a blend of 90% Sangiovese and 10% Merlot, and it delivers way more than most of the $15 reds in the shop. It’s been a top-seller for years, and I get it -- it’s plush, approachable, and consistently loved by many. This new vintage keeps that streak alive.

Aging for about 6 months in oak adds a bit of spice and a softer texture without overwhelming things. Think ripe cherry, baked plum, a touch of cocoa, and warm spice on the nose, and a full yet smooth and supple palate framed by silky tannins and mellow acidity.

This is modern Tuscany all the way, but there's great balance with every sip, and at the end of the day, it drinks way above its humble price point. If this were from California, we'd be looking at a $25+ price tag...
