If you've ever stopped into Table Wine Asheville, you know it's not your average wine shop. Founded in 2010 by industry veteran Josh Spurling and his wife Lynn, it's a place built on relationships — with the people who make the wine, the people who bring it here, the people who work at the shop, and the people who come in looking for something special.
So what goes on behind the scenes? Here's a little peek.
How We Choose What's on the Shelf
Every bottle we carry has a story, and more often than not, that story starts with a family. We seek out wines from small, family-owned wineries — places where the same hands that tend the vines are the ones signing the labels. These are producers who have poured generations of knowledge, passion, and hard work into their craft, and you can taste it in every glass.
We taste constantly, ask a lot of questions, and only bring in wines that genuinely move us. If we wouldn't open it at our own dinner table, it's not going on our shelf.
The People Behind the Pours
Our team is made up of real wine lovers — curious, approachable, and always excited to share what's new. When you ask for a recommendation, you're getting an honest answer from someone who has actually tasted it and thought about who might love it. Isn't that who you want helping you to pick out your wine(s)?
The store has also been a launching point for many young wine professionals. "I look for individuals with a severe passion for wine," says Josh. "Severe might sound extreme, but it's that intense interest in wine I look for over preconceived knowledge in the folks who I employ." Many of these folks now hold jobs in distribution, importation, and management. "That makes me very proud."
More Than a Wine Shop
Table Wine is a gathering place for the Asheville community. Whether you're grabbing a bottle for a weeknight dinner or hunting for something special to bring to a celebration, we're here to help you find exactly the right thing. We also hold free wine tastings almost every Saturday from 2-5 PM. We believe wine is meant to be shared and talked about, and we love being part of those moments.
