2023 Aperture Cabernet Sauvignon

Aperture Cellars is home base for the highly-talented Jesse Katz. Before founding his own winery, he trained with some iconic estates near and far. I'm talking Screaming Eagle in Napa, Chateau Petrus in Bordeaux, and Vina Cobos in Mendoza. His abundant talents are on full display in this fine-tuned Cabernet, and I am proud to be the first account in WNC to offer his wines.

Composed almost entirely of Cabernet Sauvignon from the mineral-rich, volcanic, hillside vineyards of Alexander Valley, this competes with ANY Cabernet Sauvignon produced in our country, but the price of entry is just $60! Aged for 18 months in French oak (55% new), this layered, intense, and graceful Cab offers up power, detail, and grace, and it will offer wonderful drinking over the next 15-20 years.

The critics unanimously loved this wine, and I've included their reviews below. I've tasted it too, and trust me when I say this is an impeccable Sonoma County Cab, and my notes were similar to the expert's.....

Robert Parker's Wine Advocate - 96+ points - "It has slowly unfurling scents of cassis, black cherry, dark chocolate, cast iron and floral hints. The full-bodied palate is impressively concentrated without over-ripeness, and its flavors are rich yet minerally. It has an haut couture frame of powdery tannins and refreshing acidity and a very long, elegant finish. It should be very long lived in the cellar."

International Wine Report - 98 points - "In the glass, it reveals an opaque ruby-purple hue. The nose is strikingly layered, bringing together aromas of crushed black cherries, wild marionberries, roasted coffee bean, cedary herbs, and damp forest soil. The palate follows with intensity and grace, offering cassis, mulberry, and dark chocolate, balanced by savory herbs and graphite. This bottling is both deeply expressive and precise, one of the most incredible Cabernet Sauvignons yet from Aperture, built to evolve over two decades."

Wine Enthusiast - 96 points - "Aromas of black cherry, licorice, crushed mint and cocoa powder burst from the glass and mingle on the nose of this Cabernet. The palate gives concentrated flavors of blackberry coulis, black pepper, purple flowers, licorice, pencil shavings and dark chocolate before a richly tannic finish that promises decades of evolution in the cellar."
