The 2017 Lemelson Thea’s Selection Pinot Noir is another strong vintage of this consistently delicious cuvée. It is worth noting every vintage since 2014 has scored 93 points, and who doesn’t love a great Oregon Pinot Noir at less than $25? I hear crickets….

Eric Lemelson came to wine in a roundabout way. An Oregonian since the late 70’s, his first career was not as a farmer, but as an environmental lawyer with a strong commitment to “green principles.” Eric fell in love with the sensual and seductive nuances of Oregon Pinot Noir in the early 90’s. He planted his first vineyard in 1995 and the rest, as they say, is history.
Lemelson’s wines have gone on to gain much acclaim and his 2017 Thea’s Selection Pinot Noir is stellar. Lemelson’s “house cuvee,” it is a blend of grapes from all seven of his certified organic, estate vineyards. It spans three different Willamette Valley AVA’s and it is a true taste of the Willamette Valley. Ripe and inviting, it sports a nose of dark cherry and blackberry with underpinnings of anise, black tea, and brown spice. On the palate, it’s rich, silky, and luxurious. Need I say more?
I won’t, but the top wine critics in the land will!
James Suckling described it very favorably. “Aromas of ripe mixed cherries and berries sit within attractively spicy and earthy nuances. There’s a succulent feel to the palate with a long, plush stream of fresh, fleshy red and dark cherries. Long, cherry-pip finish. Drink or hold.”
Wine Spectator chimed in too. “Dynamic and well-knit, with vibrant black raspberry, spiced tea and violet accents that gather richness toward medium-grained tannins. Drink now through 2027.”
Sounds good doesn’t it? Trust me, it is, and you won’t find a better Oregon Pinot Noir for the money. If you even slightly like Oregon Pinot Noir, get at least a bottle, but if Pinot Noir is your thing, take advantage of the 6-pack savings.
