Wine of the Week - 2010 Bench Cabernet Sauvignon

Wine of the Week - 2010 Bench Cabernet Sauvignon

Bench Wines are produced by the Brack Mountain Wine Company, founded in 2008.

The winery is dedicated to producing artisanal, small-lot, premium wines offered at a fair price. In the case of their Cabernet, all of the fruit is from a vineyard in southern Alexander Valley that Jordan often uses to craft their Cabernet Sauvignons.

Bench Wines are primarily sold in top restaurants, but they do save a little bit for us small retailers. The wines are brand new to North Carolina, and we are very pleased to be one of the only shops in Western North Carolina to stock their wines.

Just 2,500 cases of this wine were produced for the 2010 vintage, and the fruit yields were extremely low at just around 3 tons per acre……….that’s very low! The resulting wine is a big, burly wine with a deep purple color along with a lovely core of ripe black cherry and black currant fruit along with secondary nuances of cedar, earth and spice box. It tastes even better with a grilled piece of meat, but possesses plenty of “drink alone” charm.
