The Wines

1. NV Broadbent Vinho Verde (Portugal) – I taste lots of Vinho Verdes every year, but I always come back to this one. Assembled by and brought to the US by Bartholomew Broadbent, one of the leading authorities on Portuguese wine in the world, it is lightly frothy, beautifully fresh and dry, and simply delicious. Chill it nicely, twist the cap off, pour in glass, enjoy and repeat!

2. NV Bailly-Lapierre Brut Rose (Burgundy, France) – This has quickly become a staff and customer favorite in a very short period of time. A blend of Pinot Noir and Gamay from a high quality cooperative based in Bailly, the birthplace of the AOC Crémant de Bourgogne, it is deeply colored and bursting with red fruits, spices and mineral notes. Come taste it and see why folks are loving it!

3. 2013 Raventos I Blanc De Nit (Conca del Riu Anoia, Spain) – In my opinion and the opinion of many wine judges, writers, and lovers, Raventos is the top sparkling wine producer in Spain. This 21st generation family domaine is currently run by the passionate Pepe Raventos, and he has created a new appellation with mucher higher standards of quality and geographic requirements than that which is covered under the simple Cava appellation. The Raventos De Nit is their pale colored, but powerful dry rose, and it is made up of old vine Macabeau, Xarel-lo, Parellada, and just a splash of Monastrell. You don’t have to agree, but to us, this represents one of the best sparkling wine values on the planet. Tasting equal to or superior to many much higher priced Champagnes from France, this make an ideal aperitif. Enjoy!
