Try 3 For Free Wine Tasting - Focus on Michel Gassier

Saturday, April 1st from 2-5 pm – Join us for a free wine tasting (click here for directions) featuring new vintages of Michel Gassier’s award winning Southern Rhones! Yep, the Cercius and the Nostre Pais reds and whites are back, and Table Wine is the only place in Asheville to get them!

We spend a lot of time talking about the wines of Michel Gassier. Why? Because they represent some of the best values of the Southern Rhone every single year. Michel Gassier was born in Costieres de Nimes, the southernmost part of the Rhone Valley, and he knows the land, the grapes, the climate, and the soil. This knowledge is highly evident in his wines. You all know the Cercius wines are rock solid, but we think the real values are his Nostre Pais wines. These might best be described as his “Cercius Reserve” wines. Made with fruit from Gassier’s home turf of Costieres de Nimes, just west of Chateauneuf du Pape, these wines offer up Chateauneuf like style, flavor, and press at a fraction of the price. Sound good? All you have to do is stop by, taste, learn, and save on all of the featured wines.

1. 2015 Michel Gassier Cercius Blanc (Southern Rhone Valley) – This enchanting blend of Grenache Blanc and Sauvignon Blanc is the best selling white wine in the store. Offering loads of ripe fruit flavors, great texture, and plenty of balancing acidity, it’s what Josh calls “the perfect white wine.”

2. 2014 Michel Gassier Nostre Pais Blanc (Costieres de Nimes)
– This brilliant white wine would put many White Chateauneuf du Papes to bed! A blend of 52% Grenache Blanc, 22% Roussanne, 17% Viognier, and dollops of Clairette and Bourbolenc, this is fresh, bright, exotic and delicious. Offering up gorgeous notes of white peach, citrus blossom, white flowers, and zesty acidity, it offer immediate gratification.

3. 2015 Michel Gassier Cotes du Rhone Vieilles Vignes “Cercius” (Southern Rhone Valley) – The Cercius Cotes du Rhone is one of the best selling wines in the history of the store, and Vintage 2015 produced another incredible wine. A blend of 85% Grenache and 15% Syrah, all from 80+ year old vineyards, it is fat, plush, and decadent with notes of ripe kirsch, raspberry, lavender and Provencal herbs. Full bodied, yet seamless and smooth, this is guaranteed to blow some minds.

4. 2014 Michel Gassier Nostre Pais Rouge (Costieres de Nimes) – We’ll let Jeb Dunnuck of The Wine Advocate tell you about this one! “One of the bigger, richer versions of this cuvee, the 2014 Nostre Païs Costières de Nîmes (35% Grenache, 25% Carignan, 20% Syrah and the rest Mourvèdre and Cinsault) was fermented with one-third whole clusters and aged in equal parts 500-liter barrels and concrete tanks. Its deep ruby/purple color is followed by terrific notes of blackberries, blackcurrants, roasted herbs and licorice. It has serious mid-palate depth, integrated acidity and present, yet ripe tannin, all suggesting it will evolve gracefully for at least 4-6 years.” – 91 points
