Regaleali Le Rose 2018

Sicilian Dry Rose Everyone’s Talking About

The 2018 Regaleali Le Rose is the dry rose everyone’s going to be talking about. After tasting it with my staff last week, we all agreed that this was one of the best value dry roses we’d tasted all year. Rated 90 points by both Vinous Media and Wine Enthusiast, we’re dealing deep on this one.

Regaleali Le Rose 2018

2018 Tasca d’Amerita Regaleali Le Rose — Arrives Wednesday, July 24th

90 points Vinous Media and Wine Enthusiast

What immediately grabbed me here was the aromatic complexity of this wine. Yes, rose can be complex! There’s so much going on here, and I love it. The first thing I picked up was rose petal, and that’s somewhat fitting as thousands of roses thrive on the Regaleali esate. In addition, there’s a mix of Mediterranean herbs, strawberry, raspberry, and citrus zest.

The grape used to craft this glorious rose is Nerello Mascalese, a Sicilian specialty. Imagine a hypothetical Pinot Noir meets Nebbiolo cross — that’s the best way I can describe the grape. Possessing the glorious red fruit of Pinot Noir along with more savory, complex, and tart characteristics of Nebbiolo, this is by all means a noble grape. And you can certainly taste its nobility here.

And it’s not just me who thinks it’s so good. The world’s wine critics have caught on too. “Fresh herbs and strawberry on the nose and in the mouth,” says Vinous Media. And Wine Enthusiast chimed in with similar praise. This “fresh, fragrant wine opens with aromas of rose petal, wild red berry and Mediterranean scrub. Bright and savory, the palate recalls the nose, doling out raspberry, red cherry and a hint of citrus alongside tangy acidity.”

I know it’s cooled off a bit (thank goodness), but this is the perfect all year rose. It’s sturdy enough to handle pork, poultry, and meatier fish (think tuna or salmon), but it’s oh-so refreshing. So feel free to skip the food and sip to your heart’s content.
