Perfect Summer Wines

Perfect Summer Wines

Asheville’s Best Free Wine Tasting – Friday, June 26th from 2-7 p.m. – Is it hot enough for you yet? It certainly is for us, and we’ve noticed a serious uptick in white and pink wine consumption among ourselves and our customers. But just because it’s blazing hot outside doesn’t mean you put the reds away. Otherwise, what are you going to serve with your steak? We’ll have all bases covered with a trio of perfect summer wines to help you beat the heat and to serve with that perfectly grilled, medium rare ribeye. Stop by, taste, learn, and save up to 20% off on all of the tasting wines every Friday at Table Wine.

The Wines

1. 2013 Pikes Riesling “Hills & Valleys” (Clare Valley, Australia) – Australia makes some incredible dry Rieslings and most wine experts would agree that Pikes is one of the country’s greatest producers of this grape. Fermented in stainless steel and completely dry, this smells like a summer fruit salad. Pear, apple, lime, white flowers and mineral all come through on the juicy and zesty palate.

2. 2014 Les Epinats Saumur Blanc (Loire Valley, France) – From Asheville’s sister city in France, this is an absolutely gorgeous rendition of dry, Loire Valley Chenin Blanc. Bursting with aromas and flavors of golden apple, pear, peach, and light mineral, this is one of those wines that disappears very quickly. It’s perfect for sipping on hot summer days, and it also makes a great companion to grilled fish, shrimp, and veggies.

3. 2013 Zorzal Malbec “Terroir Unico” (Mendoza, Argentina) – We’ll finish up with a 92 pointer that sells for a song! “The 2013 Terroir Unico Malbec is unoaked and sourced from a special vineyard close to the winery, planted in poor soil. The code name they use internally to identify the wine is “chalk.” It does have a strong sense of minerality and the pure character of the Malbec, with fresh floral notes (violets), pungent aromatic herbs (lavender), and a spicy twist. The palate is very fluid, with tension. This is pure Malbec juice such that I had not experienced before. Unbelievable quality for the price! Drink 2014-2018.” – Luis Gutierrez, The Wine Advocate
