Best free wine tasting - Table Wine - Asheville - North Carolina

Friday Winedowns at Table Wine

Friday, June 3 from 3-6pm – France – From East to West – $5/person – includes a taste of 6 wines, crackers and cheese – Table Wine, South Asheville’s premiere wine store, is excited to announce what we hope will be a new South Asheville tradition – Friday Winedowns at the store. At least two Fridays per month, the store will be transformed into a gathering spot for all of our great customers. For a small fee, you’ll get to sample 6 to 8 wines, with some more premium (that means more expensive) offerings thrown into the mix as well. All of the wines being tasted will also be offered by the glass for the day at very attractive prices, or you can by a bottle and drink it with your friends in the store. Cheese, crackers and other small bites will be offered, but we welcome you to bring your own snacks as well.

For our first Winedown, we welcome Rick Bowman of Bordeaux Fine and Rare. He’ll be pouring a delicious and diverse offering of wines from small family estates from France. In case you didn’t know, France continues to offer wine consumers some of the best values on the market, and we’re excited to share some of them with you. There will be wine, cheese, crackers and informed and insightful commentary on each of the wines presented. The cost to sample 6 wines is $5 and Grape Nuts get their money back when they make a purchase. Take a look at the lineup:

2010 Domaine de la Salette Gascogne Blanc – $10.99/bottle………$4/glass
Gascogny is one of France’s go-to regions for clean and refreshing white wines that are somewhat reminscent of Sauvignon Blanc. This one is based on a blend of Colombard, Ugni Blanc and Gros Manseng, and it is loaded with green apple and citrus notes that will keep you coming back for sip after sip.

2009 Domaine de Martinolles Chardonnay Vin de Pays de l’Aude – $11.99/bottle………..$4/glass
There are many progressive wine shops throughout the country much like Table Wine, and we tend to agree that this is one of the best Chardonnay values in the world. The estate practices organic viticulture and this tank fermented white is bursting with bright tropical fruit notes, peaches and pears.

2010 Domaine les Grands Bois Cotes du Rhone Rosé – $15.99/bottle…………$5/glass
There’s nothing quite like a dry, fruit filled, zesty French Rosé on a warm and sunny day, and this one is delicious. It tastes of fresh strawberry and cherry, with zesty Herbes de Provence notes in the background.

2008 Chateau Jouclary Cabardes “Cuvée Tradition” – $12.99/bottle…………$4/glass
This blend of 50% Merlot and 25% each Grenache and Syrah tastes like what you might get if you crossed a Cotes du Rhone with a Bordeaux. Dark, savory berry fruits combine with roasted meat and spice nuances to create somthing perfectly suited for your summer barbecues.

2009 Saint Damien Cotes du Rhone “Vieilles Vignes” – $17.99/bottle………….$6/glass
Vieilles Vignes is French for old vines, and this wine is almost entirely Grenache from a 50 year old, biodynamically farmed vineyard. It is just oozing with fruit and spices……….think kirsch and raspberry with white pepper and rosemary notes. Great with lamb!

2008 Domaine du Cros Marcillac “Vieilles Vignes” – $19.99/bottle………….$7/glass
We’ll finish the tasting with a wine I absolutely love. Composed of 100% Fer Servadou, a grape indigenous to the southwestern part of France, this stuff is completely singular. From a vineyard originally planted in the 1930’s, the wine is fermented and aged in chestnut and oak barrels. It is a stout wine with lots of structure and aromas and flavors of meat juices, wild herbs and earth. Drink now through 2020.

As always, we will offer 10% off of 6 bottles and 15% off of 12, and you can mix it up. We hope you can make it!
