Free Wine Tasting and Fresh Veggies

Every Saturday, we host a free wine tasting at our South Asheville store where you get the chance to “try before you buy” four wines from all corners of the globe. We typically feature wines from family owned and operated wineries where the producer is equal parts farmer and winemaker. In addition, during the summer months, we bring in local, organically grown vegetables from Hominy Valley Organic Farm in Candler. Farmer Tom Kousky grows some of the most beautiful and flavorful vegetables in the region and we sell them for really fair prices. This is the perfect way for you to support small family farms and have a good time doing so.

Gorgeous veggies from Farmer Tom!

The tasting runs from 2:00 to 5:00 and we bring the veggies in and start selling them when we open at 11:00. If you are interested in purchasing any specific produce, please email us at josh@tablewineasheville.com and we will have your produce ready for pick-up when you come by on Saturday. We hope to see you this week! The lineup of wines is below:

1. 2011 Avaleda Vinho Verde (Portugal) – This is the quintessential summer time white wine. Dry, light, fruit, slightly fizzy and refreshing, it is packed with apple, lime and peach flavors.

2. 2009 Corvo Bianco (Sicily, Italy) – Corvo is one of Sicily’s largest family operated wineries, and this was one of the first Sicilian brands imported into the U.S. The wine is composed entirely of Insolia, one of the most planted, indigenous grapes of Sicily. The wine is unoaked, clean and fresh with notes of green apple and lemon with subtle floral nuances. It is the perfect wine to serve with linguine with clams.

3. 2009 Vale da Torre Bin 717 (Alentejo, Portugal) – This is the home estate of Paulo Laureano, one of the top oenologists in Portugal. A blend of 50% Aragones and 50% Trincadeira (both native Portuguese varietals), this is a lot of wine for the money! With a nice, deep color and flavors of ripe cherry, raspberry, coffee, mocha and spice, it is sure to please a lot of folks.

4. 2010 Henry’s Drive Pillar Box Red (Padthaway, Australia) – This consensus best value comes from Henry’s Drive, one of Australia’s all-star producers and the winemaking is handled by Chris Ringland, one of Australia’s best. The blend is Shiraz, Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot and the flavor is big, rich and jammy with notes of black cherry, black currant, cassis and pepper.
