Free on Fridays Wine Tasting - New Spanish Wines

Free on Fridays Wine Tasting – Stop by the store and sample some delicious new Spanish wines! Friday, November 4th, 4-7pm

Spain continues to be a hotspot when it comes to great wines at great prices. The country is home to many different grape varieties and styles of wine, and we are excited to share some of our favorite new finds with you this Friday. Join us as we’ll pour 3 different wines made with some of Spain’s most noted varieties. We’ll start with a stunning Albarino that sees partial barrel fermentation – it simply blew us away when we tasted it a couple of weeks ago. Next, we’ll pour you a pair of Mencias from the Northwestern Spain. This grape produces beautiful red wines that are sometimes compared to fuller, richer styled Pinot Noirs crossed with Loire Valley Cabernet Franc. Sound good? Stop by, taste, learn, and save big on all of the featured tasting wines. Can’t make it by, but want to place an order? Just email us at josh@tablewineasheville.com.

1. 2015 Bodegas La Cana Albarino (Rias Baixas, Spain) –Fermented in a combination of stainless steel (80%) and French oak (20%), the wine is aged on the lees with batonnage for a period of 3 months. Fuller bodied, more aromatic and richer than most Albarinos out there, this one packs a serious punch. Stone fruits, delicate spice and hints of mineral permeate this fuller styled, absolutely delicious white wine.

2. 2014 Avancia Mencia “Cuvée de O” (Valdeorras, Spain) – Mencia is the key red grape of Northwestern Spain, and we are huge fans! This one comes from old vines planted in 1950 and 1980 and is fermented with native yeasts in stainless steel and then is aged for 8 months in neutral French oak. The resulting wine is fresh, juicy, and somewhat savory with notes of dark cherry, cranberry, earthy spice and mineral. 91 points Vinous Media

3. 2014 Descendientes de Jose Palacios Petalos (Bierzo, Spain) – This is one of the benchmark Mencias of Spain, and it comes from old hillside and hilltop vineyards on Bierzo’s western edge. Showing the richer and fuller bodied side of Mencia, it is still beautifully textured and stylish. Showing aromas and flavors of fresh berries, complex mineral, licorice, and violets, it is a beautiful wine to drink now and over the next 5 to 7 years. It is also an incredible value. 93 points The Wine Advocate
