The Wines
1. 2014 Vallevo Chardonnay (Abruzzo, Italy) – You’ll be hard pressed to find a better no-oak Chardonnay for under $10 than this one. Vallevo puts out several great values that grace our shelves (they’re the same ones who make that Pecorino that so many of you love), and this is always pure, juicy, Chardonnay goodness. Flowing with ripe apple, pear, melon, and light floral nuances, it’s dry, crisp, and refreshing………and cheap!
2. 2013 Fattoria Casabianca Chianti Colli Senesi (Tuscany, Italy) – This small, family owned and operated estate consistently over-delivers the goods on this wine. If you want to wow the Italian wine lover in your life and not spend a ton of money, this is the wine to do it with. 80% Sangiovese with the balance in Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Canaiolo, it is velvety smooth and exhibits aromas and flavors of ripe cherry, plum, and light earth nuances.
3. 2012 Mocali Rosso di Montalcino (Tuscany, Italy) – Monica Larner of The Wine Advocate called this ” my favorite Rosso of the year and a highly recommend value wine.” She went on to give it 91+ points and after tasting this one, we think it deserves more like 93 points. 100% Sangiovese Grosso, it delivers sheer drinking pleasure and real soul and character at a very attractive price. Wow, is this good!
