Caparsa Chianti

Dazzling Chiantis from Caparsa

Caparsa is the Chianti producer everyone’s talking about. Brought to us by importer Jay Murrie of Piedmont Wine Imports, Caparsa crafts tiny amounts of traditional, soulful, and compelling Chiantis.

“I was quite frankly blown away by the wines I tasted from Caparsa this year. Proprietor Paolo Cianferoni and his family craft deep, soulful wines loaded with character.” – Antonio Galloni – Vinous Media

Galloni does not mince words, and these were both some of his top rated wines in each of their respective categories and vintages. Supplies are very limited, and it’s first come, first served. Even better, if these prices don’t work for you, we also have their Rosso on deal. Click here to read all about that one….it’s also a marvelous bottle of Sangiovese.

96 points Antonio Galloni – Vinous Media | One of his highest rated Chiantis of the vintage!

36 bottles up for grabs. First come, first served.

Let me start with Galloni’s review as it’s spot-on. He absolutely loved this wine! “Aromatic, silky and also plush, the 2016 is fabulous. Mint, pine, lavender, espresso and macerated dark cherry all open up in the glass, but more than anything else, the 2016 is a wine that gracefully marries power with richness. The 2016 is a total knock-out. Don’t miss it. Drink 2020 – 2036.”

Yep, this was one of this highest rated Chiantis of the vintage and every other 96+ point rated 2016 Chianti would cost you $100+. If you love classic and traditional Italian red wine, this will truly make your head spin. It is Sangiovese at its finest and it is one of the best expressions of the grape I’ve ever tasted.

Equally compelling and one of the greatest Chianti values this palate has every experienced is Caparsa’s Chianti Classico. From the also fantastic 2017 vintage, this literally oozes Tuscan character and personality.

Galloni raved about this one too. “Caparsa’s 2017 Chianti Classico is an absolute joy to taste. Succulent dark red cherry, mint, game, licorice and spice all flesh out in this super-expressive Chianti Classico. Open knit and inviting, the 2017 has both the depth and structure to drink well for a number of years. It is a terrific effort from Caparsa and a real overachiever in its peer group. Drink 2021 – 2032.”

The Caparsa story is one of passion, commitment to quality, and respect for the land. Started by Paolo Cainferoni in 1982, the estate is certified organic and home to some very old Sangiovese vines. Based in Radda in Chianti, the heart of Tuscany, Paolo produces about 20,000 bottles (less than 2,000 cases) of wine per year. That’s not a lot of wine especially when you consider Paolo makes 5 different wines.

Paolo’s farming and winemaking practices are healthy and labor intensive. He uses no chemicals in his vineyards, and he never has. Additionally, all grapes are hand harvested, native yeasts are used, and all of Paolo’s wines are bottled with minimal fining, filtration, and sulfites. Needless to say, this methodology has paid off.

I could go on and on, but the the proof is in the bottle(s). As Paolo says, his wines are for “wine lovers, with great complexity and strong emotions.” I could not have put any better. These are serious wines for serious wine lovers, and they’re not going to be around for long.
