The 2022 Rezabal Tkakoli is the white wine I'll be drinking a lot this spring and summer....I bought a case for myself! A wine that just jumped up and grabbed me, this Spanish white is like a cross between a gin and tonic, a Loire Valley Sauvignon Blanc, and a top-flight Albarino. Refreshment in a bottle, that's what you get here!
Basque whites are mysterious and fascinating to many American wine lovers. I actually find them quite familiar -- despite being made with unknown grapes, the good ones have a very familiar vibe about them. These are wines for lovers of crisp, bright, and salty whites -- think Muscadet, Albarino, and Sancerre. Pour yourself a glass of this, and you'll know exactly what I'm talking about.

You'll have to trust me when I say this is one of the most satisfying wines I've had this year. Txakoli is the name of the wine, and this one comes from a small, family-run estate located near the town of Getaria, in the Bay of Biscay. This is a small fishing village, and it's wines like this that have been served with the "fresh catch" on a daily basis for many years.
Up until recently, the wines weren't really known or respected outside of their home boundaries, but they have been fully accepted by American "cork dorks" with full force. I count myself among this population, and I think Txakoli's success in the US has been accelerated because the wines are so easy to like. They're light but not lacking in flavor, they're bright but the acidity is balanced, and they're just ever-so-slightly frizzante and also lower in alcohol.
If you've enjoyed Albarino, Sancerre, or Chenin Blanc, I'm confident you will love this transcendent white wine. From certified organic vineyards owned by a small family winery, the grape that is always going to be associated with world-class White Txakoli is Hondarrabi Zuri. This high-toned grape has produced a wine that just explodes out of the glass with notes of tangerine, lime zest, green pear, lemon, white flowers, and salty minerality.
Concentrated but light on its feet, this hits the palate with force and vigor, and the finish goes on for a good 30+ seconds. Reminiscent of the Bermejos Diego Seco we featured around this time last year, I think this will be just as well-received. That means it will be gone fast as not much makes its way to NC each year.
