Altosur Malbec 2019

The Top Malbec Value in the World: 2019 Finca Sophenia 'Altosur' Malbec

Cheap Malbec is usually the last thing you'll find me drinking, but the 2019 Altosur Malbec is a different story. Rated 92 points and coming to you at less than $15, this is the top Malbec value out there.

The entry-level Malbec from Argentina's Finca Sophenia, one of the top estates in Mendoza, this delicious red offers a ton of quality-to-price ratio. Whether you need a solid house red or one to pair with steak, stew, or chili, this one will do the trick.

I am so glad that the wines of Finca Sophenia have returned to North Carolina.  These were Table Wine mainstays for years, but then they left the market for unknown reasons a few years back. They're back, and they're better than ever! One smell and taste of their entry-level Malbec, and you'll know what I'm talking about.

So often, Malbecs in this price range taste processed and artificial, and that's because they are! Not this one though, it's made with 100% estate-grown fruit, and it's aged in REAL oak barrels. The finished wine easily competes with Malbecs that cost twice the price.

It opens with beautifully pure and ripe aromas of plum, blueberry, dark cherry, violet, and oak spice. On the palate, it’s forward and round, with plush tannins and mild acidity. Overall, it’s a wine of good intensity, full concentration, and a long finish.

What more could you ask for in a wine at such a fair price? Take it to your next dinner party, and blow your friends away. They'll think you spent $20+, I guarantee it.
