SOLD OUT! This is the best Barbaresco value I’ve ever encountered. The 2011 Cantine Elivo Tintero Barbaresco is delicious now, but you could easily cellar this for ten years or more and be rewarded for your patience.
“The 2011 Barbarescos have turned out beautifully. Racy and pliant, the best 2011s are gorgeous and will drink well early.” – Antonio Galloni, Vinous Media
2011 Cantine Elvio Tintero Barbaresco
Top Barbaresco deal of all time!
The wines from all-start importer Kermit Lynch have become such an integral part of our European wine selections. The guy just doesn’t pick bad wines. When our rep told me he was coming to the store with a Barbaresco that we could retail for less than $30, I was skeptical…………..until he told me it was a Lynch wine. Let’s just say I was not disappointed by what I tasted, and I promptly bought every bottle he would sell me.
The 2011 Cantine Elvio Tintero Barbaresco is a rarity to say the least. Most entry level Barbarescos start at $40 a bottle, and many of those can be mediocre at best. This is wine from a great vintage, from a great estate with lots of experience under their belt, and from vines that average 30+ years of age.
Tintero’s 2011 Barbaresco is a wine that really gives you a sense of what Nebbiolo from Barbaresco is all about. The aromas are sensual, complex, and classic with a nice mix of red fruit, violet, tar, and damp earth. On the palate, there’s the expected amount of tension (tannin and acidity) that is common with Nebbiolo, but there’s a lovely ripeness to the wine that makes this a very pleasurable wine right out of the bottle. Ripe cherry, raspberry, rose petal and violet, and earthy spice are all present in this medium to full bodied red, and the finish is easily 30+ seconds long.
The ugly side to this very pretty picture is the quantities. This is a very small production wine and only about 200 cases made their way into the United States. Obviously, I wasn’t the only buyer in the states to take a liking to this one.
