Our new Case of the Month Selection is the best selling wine in the history of Table Wine, and the new vintage is about as good as red wine gets for less than $15!
Domaine Amido Cotes du Rhone Villages “Signargues” has been a staple at Table Wine and at my house for over 4 years. I’m not kidding, I keep at least 6 bottles of this wine at my house all year, and I still haven’t gotten tired of it.

Here is a wine that offers up an amazing mix of rich fruit balanced by refreshing acidity. Although sumptuous fruit is the main draw of the wine, it also offers up moderate complexity in the form of spice and floral notes. In a nutshell, it is a wine that appeals to many different palates, and it drinks well all year long.
A true, family run estate that uses sustainable and organic practices in their vineyards, the winery was founded in the mid-1980’s by Christian Amido. As importer Charles Neal says, “Christian Amido, who died from complications of a brain aneurysm, was a soft spoken man who had been under his doctor’s care since I had gotten to know him in 2001. Against his doctor’s orders, he frequently smoked while pulling samples to taste out of various casks.”
Amazingly, in his last three years of life, he updated and modernized his winery installing a new press and replacing his cement tanks with a fleet of stainless steel. Today, Domaine Amido is run by his daughter Nathalie along with her daughter Amandine and son-in-law Antoine. The wines are better than ever!
Vintage 2014 in the Southern Rhone was considered good, but not without problems. Heavier than usual rains made conditions less than ideal, but it is in these challenging vintages where the cream always rises to the top. Domaine Amido did just that, and their Cotes du Rhone garnered an 89 point score from Josh Raynolds of Vinous Media: “Brilliant ruby. Dark berries, pungent flowers and a suggestion of allspice on the fragrant nose. Round and spicy on the palate, offering gently sweet cherry and boysenberry flavors that pick up a smoky quality with air. Dusty tannins frame the finish, which clings with good tenacity and a very subtle suggestion of bitter chocolate.”
Having enjoyed many bottles of this wine over the past several vintages, I would say Mr. Raynolds pretty much nailed the aroma and flavor profile for this wine. Drink this one with or without food over the next 3 to 5 years and.
