Allan Scott Sauvignon Blanc 2019

2019 Allan Scott Sauvignon Blanc - 93 points Wine Spectator

The 2019 Allan Scott Sauvignon Blanc was recently awarded with a 93 point score from Wine Spectator. That makes it one of just four New Zealand Sauvies to score 93 points and retail for less than $20 in the history of the Wine Spectator.

We have stocked this wine off and on for the ten years Table Wine has been open. And prior to opening the store, I sold this one with the distributor I worked for. It’s always good but I can assure you this is the best wine this iconic and pioneering estate has ever produced. And it’s one of the greatest New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc deals of all time!

It should come as no surprise that Allan Scott has produced one of New Zealand’s top Sauvignon Blancs of the vintage. He is an icon and has worked every harvest since 1973. He’s credited with planting some of Marlborough’s most famous vineyards, including the very first. And his intuition to plant his vineyards along the northern edge of the Wairau Valley has paid off. It is this area that is now home to New Zealand’s top Sauvignon Blanc vineyards.

A true family owned and operated winery, Allan and his wife Catherine established their estate in 1990 as one of the first independent wineries of Marlborough. And it remains family owned and operated today. Allan and Catherine remain actively involved in all levels of production; their son Josh is the winemaker; and their daughters Sara and Victoria are the viticulturist and marketing manager, respectively. Their vineyards are farmed using organic inputs, with minimal chemicals and energy. And in 2006, the Scott Family Winery joined the Sustainable Winegrowers program and continues to follow its practices closely.

And all of this hard work combined with the family’s excellent vineyards and Marlborough’s unique combination of cool nights, sunny days and rocky soils has added up to greatness in their 2019 Sauvignon Blanc. A modern classic, Wine Spectator did a great job of describing it and I have nothing to add. “Stylish, generous and intense, featuring lemon curd, apricot and lime sherbet flavors that are vivid and mouthwatering, accented by details of matcha green tea, white pepper and passion fruit. Shows excellent follow-through on the finish. Drink now.”

Enjoy this incredible value with all sorts of fish and seafood preparations but don’t forget to include fresh green veggies and goat cheese-laced salads. It’s an incredible food wine but it’s also the ultimate porch and patio sipper. Stock is limited and I suspect this will go incredibly fast.
