Table Wine Asheville Tasting

545 Wine Tasting - Try 5 Wines For $5 - Friday, February 8

We’re feeling like supporting a fellow North Carolina resident and wine lover this week, and he’s a really nice guy at that. Andre Tamers is the man and the mind behind De Maison Selections, and he operates out of Chapel Hill. He is one of the #1 US-based importers of wines from small family, estate wineries of Spain, and we are proud to stock his wines.

When we say “estate”, it means that the folks who make the wine also own and farm their own vineyards – that ensures that quality is continuous from the vineyard to the bottle. Furthermore, Andre specifically works with wineries run by “locals” or folks who live in and grew up in the specific regions where their wines are made. This ensures that the wines possess regional authenticity. In other words, if you want to drink like a Spaniard, you better get your fanny down to the store this Friday.
$5/person…..Free for Grape Nuts. Here’s the lineup:

The Wines
Prices range from $14 to $20 and these wines always get great press…..in case you wanted to know!

1. 2012 Ameztoi Getariako Txakolina
What???? Don’t worry if you can’t pronounce it. This is one of the freshest and most exuberant white wines on the planet. If you don’t believe me, ask Felix at Curate!

2. 2010 Mencos Rioja Blanco
From an old plot of Viura, this traditional white wine is super clean and invigorating with nice lemony fruit and minerally complexity.

3. 2011 Luberri Rioja “Orlegi”
Orlegi is all Tempranillo and it enjoys a partial whole cluster fermentation in stainless steel. It offers layers of juicy, ripe berries, earth, brown spices and an overall friendly personality. Yum!

4. 2008 Luberri Rioja “Seis”
“Seis” is Spanish for six and refers to the six months this wine is aged in French and American oak. It is 100% Tempranillo and it is moderately powerful with a dark set of fruit notes along with notions of spices and smoke.

5. 2011 Vina Sastre Ribera del Duero Roble
Vina Sastre is one of the reference point estates of Ribera and this wine will finish the trio of Tempranillos. We’ve sold this wine since we opened and it never fails to please. Full, but soft and accessible, it offers up notes of dark cherries and raspberry with complex notes of earthy mushroom and spicy, toasty oak.
