SOLD OUT! With Thanksgiving just around the corner, the 2019 Clos de la Roilette Fleurie is the wine you want to be drinking with the feast. This is always one of my favorite Cru Beaujolais’, and the 2019 vintage was recently rated 94 points by Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate. Only two Cru Beaujolais’ scored higher!
This is not like your typical Beaujolais. Let me make that clear! Full-bodied and packed with flavor yet silky and velvety, this is one of the best Cru Beaujolais you’ll ever pour in your glass. Unfortunately, supply never meets demand. Just 60 bottles available.

Let’s start with the Wine Advocate’s glowing review on this one. “Alain Coudert’s 2019 Fleurie from the Clos de la Roilette is showing beautifully, wafting from the glass with aromas of rose petals, red cherries, raspberries, spices and orange rind. Medium to full-bodied, deep and velvety, it’s elegant and fine-boned, with lively acids, refined structuring tannins and a long, perfumed finish. Drink now – 2039.”
Year after year, Alain Coudert’s Clos de la Roilette is fantastic. And Vintage 2019 is another super strong one throughout the Beaujolais region. Warm, dry, and sunny conditions led to ripe and seamless wines with great depth of flavor and strong personalities. And let’s get something straight, I really like Beaujolais Nouveau. It’s charming and it’s easy drinking. But this about as close to Beaujolais Nouveau as prime beef is to a Big Mac. Apples to oranges!
Alain Coudert’s old, hillside vineyards on the border with Moulin-a-Vent yield powerful, deeply colored, cellar-worthy wines. In fact, I popped a bottle of the 2014 the other night. In all honesty, the wine smelled kind of like Gevrey-Chambertin. Yes, I just said that and I stand behind that statement 100%. The nose was super spicy and packed with mineral, the fruit was still pulsing, and the tannin was incredibly fine. And at less than $25, you can’t say that about many other wines.
But if you don’t have the patience to wait, don’t worry because this one is great right now. Just give it an hour long decant, and you’ll be very happy. With its combination of ripe red fruits, exotic spices, and elegant structure, this is a red that will match up both with turkey and with all the fixins’.
