2018 Trefethen Double T Red

Beautiful Bordeaux-inspired blend from one of Napa Valley’s pioneering producers!

SOLD OUT

Trefethen Family Vineyards is a third generation, family owned and operated winery. This pioneering Napa Valley winery was one of the first to champion the concept of “estate grown wines.” They own their vineyards, they farm them in a clean and sustainable fashion, they pick their own grapes, and they produce their wines in their own state of the art winery. Their overriding goal is for their wines to express the unique spirit of their land, vines, and people.

The phenomenal 2018 vintage has yielded some of Napa Valley’s top wines of the 21st century. And the 2018 Double T Red includes all five of the classic Bordeaux grapes. The blend is 45% Merlot, 25% Cabernet Sauvignon, 16% Petit Verdot, 12% Malbec, and 2% Cabernet Franc. It is a wine that famed wine critic Robert Parker said “could be mistaken for a mid-weight Margaux from Bordeaux.” I agree!

All of the fruit for the 2018 Double T Red comes from Trefethen’s Main Ranch Vineyard in the heart of the Oak Knoll District. Aged for 16 months in French oak (15% new), the finished wine offers classic Napa Valley flavors at a great price. Soft and fine-grained in personality, it offers up beautiful notes of dark currant, raspberry, herbs, and damp earth. Drink this beauty now and over the next 5-7 years.

Lynn and I had a bottle on New Year’s Eve with filet mignon, and it was a perfect match. I highly suggest you do the same. Cheers to happy drinking and eating in Asheville!
