Free on Fridays: Classic Grilling Wines

The Best Free Wine Tasting in Asheville – Classic Wines for the Grilling Season – Friday, May 8th from 2 to 7 p.m. – We’re sure most you have dusted off your grills by now, and we’re here to help you pick out the perfect wine for whatever you’re grilling.  From vegetables and fish to chicken and steak, there’s a great wine for every preparation.  Stop by, taste, learn, and save on some classic grilling wines.

We’ll start with the brilliant 2014 Lioco Indica Rosé, one of California’s top dry pink wines.  Based entirely on old vine Carignane, it’s light, zesty, and beautifully aromatic with strawberry, cherry, and floral notes galore.  It works wonderfully as an aperitif to guzzle while you’re grilling or try it with grilled vegetables, fish, and/or seafood.  Up next the 2012 Gordo Red Blend is an amazing value from Spain’s Yecla region.  A blend of 70% Monastrell and 30% Cabernet Sauvignon from an organic vineyard planted in 1970, this is about as good as red wine gets for less than $20.  Boasting dark fruit notes along with a savory character typically found in much more expensive wines, this one would be great with everything from barbecued chicken to medium rare filet mignon.  Is you mouth watering yet?  We’ll finish up with the 2010 Bodega Gratia Cabernet Sauvignon from Mendoza, Argentina. While every other store is dealing in the 2012 vintage of this wine, we were offered the opportunity to buy several cases of the older, more mature vintage.  We’re glad we did as this might go down as the Cabernet deal of the year. Needless to say, this one is a perfect partner to a big, fat ribeye.
