Wine of the Week - 2010 Domaine de Bila-Haut Cotes de Roussillon Villages

Domaine de Bila-Haut is owned and operated by the Chapoutier family, one of the great family producers of Southern France.

Led my the enigmatic Michel Chapoutier, this family just doesn’t make bad wine, and Bila-Haut is their newest operation. This might be the find of the year in super high quality, highly rated and affordable red wine. We just picked up 7 cases!

The wine is primarily Grenache with smaller portions of Syrah and Carignan, and all of the farming is biodynamic – that’s beyond organic. As I’ve said before, 2010 was an incredible vintage throughout Southern France marked by warm weather, lots of sunshine and not much rain, and the classic Mediterranean grapes love these conditions.

Robert Parker rated the wine 94 points, and when you consider this one sells for less than $20, I think you'll agree this is a ton of wine for the money. Dark in color and highly aromatic, with a nose of dark wild berries, Provencal herbs, cracked black pepper and violet, the wine follows through on the palate with a lush texture and fine grained tannins. It is custom-made to be served with grilled meats, especially lamb.
