Chateau D’Angles was purchased by Eric and Christine Fabre in 2001. The estate sits right on the Mediterranean in between Beziers and Narbonne in the sub-region of La Clape. These areas enjoy warm and sunny conditions combined with rocky, infertile soils, and the resulting wines tend to possess nice color and intensity of flavor. In the hands of a master like Eric Fabre, the wines achieve all of these characteristics and then some.
Eric was the winemaker and technical director at famed First Growth Lafite-Rothschild for over 8 years, and he has capably applied his talents to the making of this wine. We love the reds from the Languedoc-Roussillon, but many of them can be a bit rugged and rustic (we love those too) and some of our customers don’t connect with those traits in their red wines.Don’t worry here folks – this one is nicely polished, smooth and round………….and then some!
A blend of 50% Syrah, 30% Grenache and 20% Mourvedre all fermented in stainless steel and then aged in older oak barrels for a bit, this is an absolutely delicious wine that all ready has a bit of age on it. Right out of the shoot, it displays aromas and flavors of ripe black cherry, plum and raspberry fruit accented by notions of cracked black pepper, roasted herbs and dark chocolate. As the wine sits in the glass or decanter, it softens up rather quickly but still maintains a sense of freshness and energy. Drink this one now with a heavily peppered and grilled steak or lamb or lay it down for another 3 to 5 years.
