Springtime Sippers Wine Tasting – Saturday, April 11th from 2 to 5 p.m. – It doesn’t get much better than sitting on your porch or patio sipping on a glass of cold white wine with the sun shining down on you. Equally satisfying is enjoying a bold and rich red with a perfectly grilled steak or some barbecued chicken. Thirsty and hungry yet? Stop by this Saturday as we pop the tops on some wonderful wines for sipping with or without food all spring and summer.
Prices range from $13 to $19
1. 2013 Carlo Huber “Uber” Gruner Veltliner (Burgenland, Austria) – This wine from importer Carlo Huber has a lot going for it. It’s organic, it comes in a liter bottle (that gets you an extra 1/3 of a bottle), and it’s delicious! Completely dry and zesty, it offers up lovely notes of pure apple and citrus, with white pepper and mineral notes flowing throughout. Served ice cold, this is the quintessential porch pounder!
2. 2012 Conti Formentini Pinot Grigio (Collio-Friuli, Italy) – If we poured this for you blind, you would never guess it as Pinot Grigio. It’s so much richer, rounder and more sophisticated than most of the wines produced with this grape. Spiced apple, white peach, pear, almond and spring flowers all make an appearance in this creamy, stylish bottle of white wine.
3. 2012 Beran Zinfandel (Various Regions, California) – Those Wagners are up to their old tricks again! They’ve already wowed you with Caymus, Belle Glos, and Meiomi, and now they’ve entered the Zinfandel sweepstakes. This one is super rich and jammy, with lush berry fruit, peppery spice, vanilla and toasty oak dominating the nose and palate.
